LAS VEGAS, Nev. (March 25, 2013) - The American Subcontractors Association presented its 2012 National Construction Best Practices Awards to five construction contractors that demonstrate an extraordinary level of commitment to best industry practices, such as safety management, prompt payment, prompt processing of change requests and claims, and effective project scheduling and coordination. The awards recipients are:

• Alberici Constructors, St. Louis, Mo.
• Bigane Paving, Chicago, Ill.
• High Construction, Lancaster, Pa.
• Limestone Building Group, Tanner, Ala.
• Rhodey Construction, St. Louis, Mo.

“ASA is proud to honor these contractors for upholding superior business practices in the construction industry,” said 2012-13 ASA President Walter Bazan Jr., Bazan Painting Company, St. Louis, Mo.

The awards program’s rigorous criteria, established by the ASA Task Force on Ethics in the Construction Industry, include the use of a standard subcontract whose provisions substantially reflect the best practices incorporated into the ASA-endorsed ConsensusDocs 750 Standard Agreement Between Constructor and Subcontractor and highly favorable evaluations from at least three specialty trade contractors, based on 20 project management factors.

Bigane Paving and Limestone Building both use the ConsensusDocs 750 subcontract agreement as the basis of their standard subcontracts.

“Bigane is a pleasure to work for because they care for their subcontractors,” one subcontractor said in its recommendation of Bigane. “Bigane’s number one priority is safety. They are always concerned with the safety of their employees as well as with everyone else working with them. In our experience, Bigane Paving is one of the best general contractors in the Chicago area.”

A subcontractor recommending Limestone said, “Over the last several years, we have completed several projects for Limestone … In all cases, we have had no problems concerning their contract, payment, or project management.”

A subcontractor recommending Alberici said, “We find them to be extraordinary by comparison to most general contractors in all facets relating to the construction process: fair contract, timely response and decisions regarding changes or problems, prompt payment, and subcontractor coordination.”

In recommending High Construction, a subcontractor said, “High understands that their subcontractors need to be successful to sustain productive and meaningful relationships that transcend a particular project. They deal with problems directly, and fairly. They foster an environment that is oriented around meeting the project objectives, satisfying the client, and respecting all parties involved.”

Another subcontractor, in recommending Rhodey Construction, said, “Rhodey Construction has always excelled in quality management personnel from project managers to their field supervisors. The office management continues to represent the highest professional level with contractual issues and payment practices while remaining personal and sincere with business relationships.”

ASA presented the awards on March 21, 2013, in conjunction with the ASA Business Forum and Convention 2013 in Las Vegas.
