WASHINGTON (Dec. 14, 2021) — Construction input prices increased 1.4% in November compared to the previous month, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) analysis of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Producer Price Index data. Nonresidential construction input prices also increased 1.4% for the month.

(Dec. 9 2021) — Three New York concrete supply and construction companies and their owner, who schemed for 3 years to deny overtime pay to 99 laborers, have been ordered to pay the workers a total of $987,591 in back wages and liquidated damages, plus interest, in a consent judgment entered in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

ARLINGTON, Va. (Dec. 6, 2021) — Construction employment increased by 31,000 jobs between October and November as nonresidential construction firms added workers for the third month in a row, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) of government data. Association officials said construction firms were likely to have added even more jobs if they could find more qualified workers to hire with many firms reporting a growing number of unfilled positions.

WASHINGTON (Dec. 1, 2021) — National nonresidential construction spending was up 0.9% in October, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) analysis of data from the U.S. Census Bureau. On a seasonally adjusted annualized basis, nonresidential spending totaled $814.2 billion for the month.

HAMILTON, N.J. (Nov. 17, 2021) — Total construction starts pushed 16% higher in October to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1.01 trillion, according to Dodge Construction Network. Nonresidential building starts gained 29% and nonbuilding moved 52% higher in October, while residential starts lost 8%. The month’s large gains resulted from the start of three large projects: two massive manufacturing plants and an LNG export facility.

(Nov. 10, 2021) — Rising construction materials prices appear to be starting to drive up the price of construction projects, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) of government data. Association officials noted that despite a big jump in what contractors charge for projects, the rise in materials prices is still much higher.

WASHINGTON (Nov. 9, 2021) — Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) and its Alabama chapter has filed a petition for review with the U.S. Court of Appeals in the 11th Circuit against the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for its COVID-19 vaccination and testing Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS), which applies to employers with 100 or more employees.

WASHINGTON (Nov. 9, 2021) —  Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) reports that its Construction Backlog Indicator rose to 8.1 months in October, according to an ABC member survey conducted from Oct. 20 to Nov. 2. The reading is up 0.5 months from September 2021 and 0.4 months from October 2020.

The long-discussed infrastructure bill has finally passed Congress, prompting reactions and statement from construction industry associations and contractors. The bill cleared the House on a 228-206 vote. The bill will be paid for with $210 billion in unspent COVID-19 relief aid and $53 billion in unemployment insurance aid.

HAMILTON, N.J. (Nov. 5, 2021) — The Dodge Momentum Index increased 10% in October to 181.2 (2000=100), from the revised September reading of 164.6. The Momentum Index, issued by Dodge Construction Network, is a monthly measure of the initial report for nonresidential building projects in planning, which have been shown to lead construction spending for nonresidential buildings by a full year. In October, commercial planning rose 14% and institutional gained 3%.
