Former professor joins national project management firm.

BETHESDA, Md. (June 26, 2012) - Cumming, a national project management and cost consulting firm, has hired Andrew Gutowski as a project director based in the company’s Washington, D.C.-area office. Previously, Gutowski was an adjunct professor at George Mason University, where he lectured on design and construction management for the GMU School of Management. He also served as an independent project management consultant for Hilton Worldwide, in which role he directed a series of projects at the Doubletree Crystal City Hotel in Arlington, Va.

It was in that capacity that Cumming, which was also providing project management services at the hotel, became familiar with Gutowski’s work ethic and expertise. Upon receiving an offer to join the firm, Gutowski accepted.

“I really liked working with the entire Cumming team,” said Gutowski. “I knew it was a place I could fit in, add value and help the company grow. The situation also allowed me to continue my work on behalf of Hilton, which was important to me. It was a perfect situation.”

At Cumming, Gutowski will continue his work at Doubletree Crystal City, overseeing the renovations of 475 guestrooms as the leader of Cumming’s project management team. Expected completion for the project is April, 2013, after which Gutowski will transition to a similar role on other hospitality assignments in the D.C. metro area. Gutowski has a long history in the hospitality industry, having worked for such companies as Hilton Worldwide, Sheraton and The JBG Companies, in addition to years of experience both stateside and abroad in property management and real estate development.

Gutowski is a longtime resident of Virginia and received his Bachelor’s in Architecture from the University of Virginia. He is also a graduate of MIT and Harvard, having earned Master’s degrees from those institutions in real estate and architecture, respectively. He is a registered architect.
