Pair Your Compact Track Loader Hydraulics With the Right Attachments

When purchasing a compact track loader or skid-steer loader, one of the most important factors to consider is the type of work you plan to do every day. Buying the right loader — and the right attachments for it — is key to boosting efficiency and tackling jobs. To get the most out of your investment, understanding your hydraulic flow options is key. It ensures optimal performance for both the loader and the attachments. Matching these options to your specific tasks can optimize work efficiency and performance.

It’s important to note that hydraulic flow definitions vary by each equipment manufacturer and product. While some of these flows are comparable, they are not identical. Customers should pay close attention to the varying gallons per minute (GPM) and liters per minute (L/min) statistics on equipment spec guides as they pertain to standard, high, and (for select Bobcat loaders) super-flow hydraulics. Customers should also pay attention to hydraulic system pressure, as this will factor into their machine’s hydraulic horsepower.

Standard Flow

Standard flow, which comes standard on compact track loaders and skid-steer loaders, is appropriate for attachments that require lower hydraulic horsepower. Examples of attachments that are best paired with standard hydraulic flow include angle brooms, hydraulic breakers, grapples, combination buckets and soil conditioners. This flow will provide necessary performance capabilities for general jobsite clearing, landscaping and grounds maintenance.

High Flow

The high-flow option provides the operator with additional hydraulic power to increase production with attachments. Optional high-flow hydraulics can still give you the choice of using standard-flow range, so you always have the option of using lower-flow attachments. Examples of attachments that are best paired with high-hydraulic flow include trenchers, stump grinders, snowblowers, flail cutters and planers.

Super Flow

Super-flow option tackles the most demanding applications like milling pavement, blowing snow, and clearing land of trees and heavy brush. Examples of attachments that are best paired with super-flow hydraulics include cold planers, drum mulchers, disc mulchers and snowblowers.

The wide range of available attachments makes your skid steer or compact track loader a true workhorse, often replacing several specialized machines. Standard flow options allow for a lower initial investment, whereas high- and super-flow options can deliver more productivity to help you get the job done. Matching the right hydraulic flow option to your specific job needs will provide you with the best efficiency and performance year-round.
