Construction Business Owner (CBO) is dedicated to providing construction business owners and their teams with the right business management advice that helps them run a better company. Our content is intended to offer practical, how-to business advice and time-saving solutions. Our articles are informative, solve problems, and are designed to educate, not promote.
We cover topics specifically for construction business owners, managers, contractors and others allied to the industry. Our audience is the midsize general contractor working primarily in commercial contracting, road and highway construction, concrete work, heavy construction, water/sewer and pipeline, excavation and/or demolition.
Our contributed articles are written by industry experts in their respective fields and incorporate case studies and the specific, real-life experiences of those working in the construction industry. Interested in contributing?
Content & Format
Acceptable topics
Articles can describe technology and topic basics, review options for meeting a typical application or service need, examine the pros and cons of approaches to a process, or explain common operating or troubleshooting methods.
No product promotion
It is not acceptable to promote specific products or services. Articles will be edited for grammar and style.
Length
Our suggested length is 1,200–1,500 words, but word count is flexible depending on topic and scope. Articles may be cut at the editor’s discretion.
Byline & bio
Include the author’s name, title, company and contact information (email, phone, company website).
Artwork
Image specs
Submit images and tables as separate files from the word doc. Submit at least 3–4 high-resolution images (1200 × 1600 pixels or 300 dpi) in JPG, TIF or EPS format. PNG, GIF and BMP files are not accepted.
Don’t embed visuals
Do not insert artwork, tables, graphs or sidebars into your Word document. Send each as a separate, clearly labeled file.
Indicate placement & include captions
If the image or sidebar placement matters, note it in your article (e.g., “Insert Image 1” or “Insert Sidebar 1”). Please also include the image caption and credit.
