DALLAS (April 7, 2014) –McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., a Texas builder for 35 years, was awarded the No. 3 ranking on the Dallas Business Journal's Healthiest Employers in North Texas list and the No. 1 ranking on the Houston Business Journal's Houston’s Healthiest Employers list for its Dallas and Houston offices having committed to health initiatives and providing top wellness programs. Numerical rankings for each honored company were announced this spring for the 2014 winners.

“It’s an honor to be recognized for the strides we’ve taken to enhance the well-being of our company,” said Jeff Wagner, vice president of operations and McCarthy’s Texas Division wellness champion. “We are huge proponents of health, fitness and overall happiness, and we believe that encouraging a healthy lifestyle creates a positive work environment.”

The Business Journals’ annual Healthiest Employers award program evaluates organizations using six key categories: culture and leadership commitment, foundational components, strategic planning, communication and marketing, programming and interventions and reporting and analysis. With more than 500 employees, McCarthy was selected from the large company category, along with 29 other companies in Dallas. With nearly 100 employees, the Houston office was ranked in the small company category. This is the second year in row the Houston office has received this honor, while the Dallas office has been recognized for three consecutive years.

“McCarthy has long been focused on employee health and wellness, and we will continue to implement programs that we believe will enhance employee well-being,” said Mike McWay, McCarthy’s Texas region president. “We created the Build for Life Program in 2010 to do just that, and we will continue to encourage health and wellness in the future. Continuously being recognized on the Healthiest Employer lists reaffirm that we have not faltered in our goal to promote a higher quality of life for our employees.”

McCarthy supports and encourages a healthy lifestyle for all its employees through its Build for Life Rewards Program, a company-wide wellness program designed to enable the entire organization to strive toward optimal mental, physical and emotional wellbeing. McCarthy focuses on four key areas: awareness, prevention, activity and lifestyle and stress, which combine to offer a comprehensive approach to wellness that serves the needs of the entire organization. From free biannual health checks to participating in a myriad of events such as the Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure and the American Heart Association Heart Walk, McCarthy employees have numerous corporate-supported activities to maintain their health and fitness.

In addition to its local recognitions, McCarthy was also recently ranked among the 2014 Healthiest 100 Workplaces in America by Healthiest Employers, the leader in employee health analytics, best practices and benchmark data. McCarthy, one of the oldest American-owned construction companies with offices nationally, was ranked No. 36 on the Healthiest 100 list.
