Irving, Texas (Oct. 28. 2019)Fluor Corporation announced today that the Dow Poly 6 project has been named a finalist for “Construction Project of the Year” for the S&P Global Platts Global Energy Awards.

The grassroots Poly 6 project is the latest addition to Dow's Freeport, Texas, site, which is the largest integrated chemical manufacturing complex in the Western Hemisphere. Fluor provided mechanical construction for the complex’s new manufacturing unit designed to produce high-melt-index polymers, such as Affinity GA polyolefin elastomers for hot-melt adhesives, as well as Engage polyolefin elastomers and Affinity polyolefin plastomers.

“We are honored to be named a finalist along with our client Dow for the ‘Construction Project of the Year’ by S&P Global Platts,” said Mark Fields, president of Fluor’s energy and chemicals business. “This recognition is a testament to Fluor’s focus on project execution excellence, as well as our ongoing commitment to supporting Dow’s investments along the United States Gulf Coast.”

Completed September 2018, Poly 6 showcased Fluor’s U.S. Gulf Coast construction expertise. With 600-plus Fluor craft and subcontractors performing the mechanical construction, the project team set industry benchmarks for safety, quality and production, including 4 straight months of 10% progress or greater.

“We have a long history with Fluor in driving successful completion of projects, and we are pleased to be considered among some of the best executed projects of 2018,” said Scot Schertwitz, Dow’s program director. “Our shared commitment to both safety and quality was fully demonstrated in the safe, smooth start-up and sustained operation of Poly 6.”

The winner of “Construction Project of the Year” by S&P Global Platts will be announced Dec.12, 2019, in New York.
