Winston-Salem, North Carolina (July 11, 2019)—Four companies have joined Steel Erectors Association of America’s (SEAA) network of craft-training providers, offering SEAA/National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) training and assessments. Participation in the program provides SEAA member companies with access to nationally recognized credentials for ironworkers. Because of SEAA’s affiliation with NCCER, members also have access to the dozens of other construction craft training materials, assessments and certifications.

These four companies join a network of 22 training units, located all over the United States.

Guy M. Turner, a crane, rigging and heavy haul provider based in Greensboro, North Carolina, will provide NCCER training and assessments for mobile crane, rigging, and signal person certifications.

“Due to the nature of our work, we have accepted that we will be involved in more specific craft training moving forward than we ever have been,” said David Johnson, safety director at Guy M. Turner. “Many of our customers already use the NCCER curriculum and certification. The curriculum is up to date and easy to understand.”

Commercial Steel Erection (CSE) Inc., of Madison Heights, Virginia, is an American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Advanced Certified Steel Erector and specializes in steel erection, crane, rigging and industrial contracting services.

“Just like any other company at this time, we are challenged with limited resources for personnel. As a result, we were interested in using the SEAA/NCCER ironworker craft training program to help us develop new talent to work and grow alongside top-class personnel that already work for CSE,” said Derek Doss, senior project manager for Commercial Steel Erection. “Beginning with the ironworker program, we believe this training can help us develop the future of CSE.”

Steel Fabricators LLC, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, will offer the SEAA/NCCER ironworker training and assessments. They are an AISC advanced certified erector and certified building fabricator. They provide fabrication, design, engineering and erection of structural steel in the southeast U.S. and the Caribbean.

Monterey Structural Steel Inc. is a family owned and operated steel fabricator and erector located in Watsonville, California. They are SEAA’s second training unit and assessment site in the state of California. In addition, the company was the 2019 recipient of the SEAA Training Grant, which provides funding to cover startup costs associated with establishing a new SEAA/NCCER training unit and assessment site.

Funding for Craft Training Grants is provided by the SEAA Safety & Education Committee, which raises funds through raffle tickets for the Boom Lift Ball Drop and the Education Fundraiser Golf Tournament, held each October. The most recent Ball Drop, sponsored by United Rentals and JLG, raised $2,000. The pot is split with the raffle winner.
