Raytheon Redstone Missile Integration Facility and Galveston Causeway Vertical Lift Railroad Bridge projects earn honors from Contractors Association

Birmingham, Ala. (Jan. 13, 2014) – Brasfield & Gorrie announced that the company received honors from the Alabama Associated General Contractors (AGC) during a recent awards ceremony. AGC presented BuildSouth awards in 13 categories, of which two projects constructed by Brasfield & Gorrie were cited for excellence.

The two projects were Raytheon Redstone Missile Integration Facility located at the Redstone Arsenal in Madison County, Alabama, and the Galveston Causeway Vertical Lift Railroad Bridge in Galveston, Texas.

“We owe this honor to our project teams, subcontractors, clients and business partners for their roles in these outstanding projects,” said Brasfield & Gorrie Regional President Brian Barr.

Brasfield & Gorrie was general contractor of the Raytheon Redstone Missile Integration Facility, a 70,000 sq ft fully automated missile manufacturing facility. The project consisted of construction of a missile assembly facility, office support area and two test cells. Site features included external mechanical yards, a guard house, parking lot, perimeter road, entry drive, truck dock and extensive security systems. The project included 6,000 cubic yards of cast-in-place concrete and more than 4 million pounds of precast concrete.

The Galveston Causeway Railroad Bridge project was constructed by a joint venture consisting of Brasfield & Gorrie and Cianbro Corporation. The $81 million dollar project included the construction of a 382-foot vertical lift bridge that allowed intercostal waterway traffic to pass under the existing railroad line. The project also included the installation of two 1,300-foot-long tunnels carrying 36-inch waterlines under the bay to supply Galveston Island with fresh water. All the bridge work, including foundation, structural, mechanical and electrical work, was self-performed by joint venture forces.
