Create + Construct Symposium Explores Resiliency & Building Performance in NYC Oct. 15

New York, New York (Sept. 19, 2019)—Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) will convene adiverse group of architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) experts with building owners and city officials for a full-day discussion on resiliency and building performance. The Create + Construct technical symposium returns to New York City on October 15, coming to its original host city after sessions in Los Angeles, California, San Francisco, Clifornia, and Boston, Massachusetts, in 2018 and 2019.

Create + Construct brings together local experts to discuss how to facilitate recovery after natural disasters, protect physical assets and well-being from human-created incidents, and stay ahead of ever-changing codes and regulations.

“As New York City responds to a changing climate, aging infrastructure, a growing population and other challenges, the design and engineering community has a golden opportunity to think differently about infrastructure,” said Jeremy Alain Siegel, BIG associate and the symposium’s keynote speaker. At Create + Construct, Siegel will present the keynote, “Social Infrastructure: Designing for Resiliency,” and discuss how to approach these topics in conjunction with needed social and urban improvements. 

“By thinking holistically and layering investments, social infrastructure has the power to build a more resilient, connected, and communal city for the next century,” he said.

Other symposium highlights include:

• Session presentations examining serious threats involving flooding, storms, earthquakes, fires, and security
• A panel discussion with local executives on planning for a more resilient future
• Networking opportunities with peers and industry thought leaders

Speakers joining Siegel include Kevin Davis of Con Edison, Douglas Fee of UDR, Robert Freudenberg of Regional Plan Association, Konstantinos Garcia-Syngros of Langan, Guy Nordenson of Guy Nordenson and Associates, Federico Patrono of Permasteelisa North America, David Prevatt of the University of Florida, and Eric Wilson of the New York City Mayor’s Office of Resiliency.

SGH participants include Scott Bondi, Qianru Guo, David Jacoby, Filippo Masetti, Ricardo Medina, Kevin Poulin, and Cheryl Saldanha.

Attendees can earn up to 7 hours of continuing education credit. SGH is an American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System (AIA CES) Approved Provider.

The symposium takes place Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019, at the Rubin Museum of Art, 150 West 17th Street, New York, New York. The day will begin with breakfast at 8:00 a.m. and conclude with a reception at 5:00 p.m.
