  • Caterpillar Reports Best Third-Quarter Sales and Profit Yet Downgrades Outlook for Future Sales

    PEORIA, Ill.  (Oct. 22, 2012) — Caterpillar Inc. announced third-quarter 2012 sales and revenues of $16.445 billion, a 5-percent increase from third-quarter 2011 sales and revenues of $15.716 billion.  Profit per share for the third quarter of 2012 was $2.54, up 49 percent from $1.71 per share in the third quarter of 2011.  Third-quarter 2012 profit per share includes a pre-tax gain of $273 million from the sale of a majority interest in Caterpillar’s third party logistics business, which had previously been announced. “Last quarter and then again a month ago at MINExpo, we discussed economic and geopolitical headwinds facing the world, and we are certainly continuing to see the impact of those uncertainties in our business,” said Caterpillar Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Doug…

  • OSHA Announces Alternative Dispute Resolution Pilot Program for Whistleblower Complaints

    WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration is launching an alternative dispute resolution pilot program for complaints filed with OSHA’s Whistleblower Protection Program. ADR can assist complainants and employers in resolving their disputes in a cooperative and voluntary manner. The program will be implemented in two OSHA regions and offer two voluntary methods of ADR: early resolution and mediation. When a whistleblower complaint is filed with OSHA in one of the pilot regions, the parties will be notified of their ADR options and may work through an OSHA regional ADR coordinator to use these methods. “OSHA is committed to fair, effective and timely enforcement of the whistleblower laws delegated to us by Congress,” said Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational…

  • Mindy Fullilove Named AIA Public Director

    Washington, D.C. (October 10, 2012) – The American Institute of Architects (AIA) announced that Mindy Fullilove, MD, will serve as Public Director from the close of the 2012 December meeting of the AIA Board of Directors until the close of the 2015 December Board meeting. Dr. Fulliove is a research psychiatrist at New York State University Psychiatric Institute and professor of clinical psychiatry and public health at Columbia University.
