    LAS VEGAS, NEV. –  The American Subcontractors Association announced the results of its 2013 national election on March 22, 2013, and Jack Austhof, Sobie Company Inc., Dutton, Mich., will take office on July 1, 2013, as 2013-14 president of ASA. “In every way that ASA works on behalf of subcontractors, ASA seeks to reach a higher standard,” Austhof said. “As your president, I will work to ensure that ASA continues not just to meet your expectations — but also to exceed them.” Austhof is president and owner of Sobie Company, an interior finishing company.   • Concrete Industry Management Program Releases Annual Report for 2011-2012

    SILVER SPRING, Md. (March 27, 2013) – The Concrete Industry Management (CIM) program, a business-intensive program that awards students with a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Concrete Industry Management, has announced the release of their 2011-2012 Annual Report.   • Businesses Face New Fee for Employee Benefits Plans under Health Care Reform

    March 26, 2013 – The IRS has issued a final rule that employers who offer various benefit plans must pay a fee to fund the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), which was established by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). The fee will be assessed on plan sponsors and issuers of individual and group policies for policy or plan years ending after Sept. 30, 2012. The first year of the fee is due July 31, 2013, and is equal to $1 per covered life per year. “Even though this fee may seem insignificant, this is one of many fees that will increase the cost to provide insurance to employees under the PPACA,” said Anita Baker, employee benefit plans managing partner at CliftonLarsonAllen LLP….
