Finalists for Outstanding Women in Construction 2021

According to 2019 data, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports women were substantially underrepresented in employment in industrial settings, such as manufacturing (29.4%), agriculture (26.2%), transportation and utilities (24.1%), mining (15.8%) — but they were least represented in construction (10.3%).

Many of the women working in the construction industry must fight to hold their place in this male-dominated environment. And, while there is a growing faction of the industry that aims to level up this gender inequity, there are none more determined than Construction Business Owner’s Outstanding Women in Construction.

In the following pages, we’ve highlighted nine women who are driving change for women throughout the industry. Outstanding Women in Construction is designed to celebrate that change and recognize those who are pursuing progress.

This year’s contest drew nearly 200 nominations from across the United States and many sectors of the industry, including representatives of leading organizations and several front-of-the-pack females who are offering different perspectives on diversity and inclusion, from the office to the field and everywhere in between.

Finalists were selected based on their expertise, leadership and management, and the exceptional contributions they have made to their companies, construction specialties and communities. The women in these pages represent some of the most influential females working to build a better environment for everyone in construction, regardless of gender, race or background.
