New mobile apps and 5-D BIM integration for project controls software platform will drive greater productivity

Orlando, FL (September 21, 2015) — From its 5th Annual User Conference, EcoSys announced its roadmap of new capabilities for its EcoSys EPC (Enterprise Planning & Controls) solution. The roadmap includes a new mobile apps framework, enhanced business intelligence analytics and 5D BIM (Building Information Modeling) integration capabilities.

This announcement comes shortly after Hexagon subsidiary, Intergraph Process, Power & Marine’s agreement to acquire EcoSys. Intergraph’s world leading enterprise engineering software combined with EcoSys’ best-in-class enterprise project controls software will offer current and future clients even greater productivity and advance the companies’ offering to the AEC (Architectural, Engineering & Construction) and BIM markets to improve project execution.

“As projects continue to grow in size and complexity, capital projects require much more powerful data automation and analysis tools in order to succeed,” said Javier Sloninsky, CEO of EcoSys. “We are excited to unveil new features for our EcoSys EPC platform which will enable clients to increase visibility and productivity through new mobile apps and expanded business intelligence capabilities.”

New features planned for the EcoSys EPC platform include:

  • New Mobile Apps: A suite of new, user-friendly mobile apps allows users to work seamlessly online and offline. The apps tailor to support business processes that are ideal for the mobile platform. Users can easily submit text and/or photos to report an issue they may spot on a jobsite, record updates, manage change approvals, capture field progress or review up-to-date project dashboards and reports. The apps will make project data available and editable offline when internet connections are not available, and keep data in sync when the mobile device reconnects to the internet later.
  • Enhanced Analytics and Business Intelligence: EcoSys EPC is positioned to support greater portfolio and project intelligence through its robust data integration capabilities and real-time analytics which provide dynamic in-memory summarizations and interactive drilldowns. EcoSys demonstrated its updated charting solution which provides improved visuals through interactive charts with configurable axes and flexible click-through ability to see related project data.
  • 5-D BIM Integration: EcoSys announced plans to develop integrations with Intergraph 3-D modelling solutions to power 5-D BIM. EcoSys EPC is a natural solution to enable 5-D BIM, as it adds project scheduling integration (4-D) and robust cost management capabilities (5-D) with Intergraph PP&M’s 3-D design and construction solutions.

CBO talked with Sloninsky recently about the recent acquisition agreement by Intergraph and EcoSys’ annual User Conference which just wrapped up in Orlando this week. Read his answers to learn more about future plans for EcoSys and goals for the acquisition below.

CBO: In light of the recent acquisition agreement, how do you feel business operations will change in the coming months?
JS: Intergraph has long been a credible name with the engineering and construction industries. They are a leader in plant design software, 3-D modeling capabilities and project management. Our combined strengths make us a great match. EcoSys is a standalone business unit, but by becoming a part of Intergraph, it gives us an opportunity and the global infrastructure to expand. It’s helpful to our customers because they won’t have to suffer growing pains. There is a shared vision that the direction of the industry is going from visualization to 5-D. With the partnership, we can provide the industry with a holistic solution that is a completely unique offering. We don’t have any close competitors at this stage.

CBO: How do you hope to benefit from the acquisition?
JS: Certainly, with a more global infrastructure – especially in countries where we don’t currently operate. There is an overlap with some of our core verticals. It will also streamline a lot of the transition points between the two companies that our customers already want and need.

CBO: What were your goals for this year’s user conference?
JS: Our conference brings together leaders in project controls across the supply chain. You have this very wide demographic – so we have started looking at common issues that everyone is facing. We have placed importance on processes that will help individuals perform better. We want our conference to be one of those environments in which customers feel safe to discuss those struggles. A lot of our customers are still trying to figure out the 5-D and BIM world. As a technology provider and an expert in the project controls space, our goal is to synthesize the latest tech innovations with project controls best practices in order to help users drive stronger project performance. This year, for example, we are unveiling our mobile applications to our customers. We also want to get our customers in front of decision makers – I think that is one of the key pieces of value attendees get from the conference.

CBO: What is your biggest challenge as a company?
JS: We always have been and want to be innovative, but we also have been a gradual technology. We’re not just pushing the latest technology trends, we’re really considering our customers and how this trend can best be applied to benefit them. There have been a lot of vendors pushing 5-D solutions for years. The thought leaders in the industry are still grappling with how they will get practical use out of the technology. The challenge we face is getting agreement from the industry on how they are going to get value out of these products. The way in which we are unveiling our mobile apps allows the customers to set up apps that they already know they can use. We place importance on providing technology in a way that doesn’t overwhelm our customers with more data.
