LAS VEGAS (November 9, 2015) —The Gary E. Bird Horizon Award was presented at the 35th IRMI Construction Risk Conference to Jayme Mayo, physician assistant/wellness director, Nabholz Construction Corporation.
Mayo created and implemented the award-winning “Building a Healthy Workplace” loss control program that focused on the caring aspect of leadership. This initiative has had significant impact on the organization’s workers compensation costs since it was introduced.
The Gary E. Bird Horizon Award, sponsored by Travelers, is presented annually by IRMI to recognize a demonstrated commitment to improving construction risk management through the implementation of innovative, cost-effective, and efficient risk management techniques.
"Ms. Mayo's approach to a wellness program was very innovative," said Jennifer Lee, vice president of construction at Travelers. "Putting a new, successful spin on something many companies have tried to implement made her a stand-out in the field this year."
The other finalists for the award were John Tindall, Regional Safety Director for Brasfield & Gorrie LLC; and Brad Condray, Vice President of Operations, and Patrick Lloyd, Chief Financial Officer, of Golden Construction LLC.
